One day down and a lifetime to go. Yesterday went off without a hitch, and I think today will be easy as well. For the record I want to state that I don’t plan on giving up soda forever, and I will partake in a refreshing soda from time to time. However, I will try to be smart about choosing real sugar over high fructose corn syrup and limiting my self to only one or two sodas a month. I also am getting in the routine of a semi regular riding schedule, now that the sun is out longer after work. I am trying to ride 25-30 miles two nights a week and a longer rides on the weekends. This feels good!

So I have a problem, and the first step is realizing I have a problem. I LOVE soda, but I have to stop drinking it. The funny part is that I also love water, but Soda is my gateway into other bad habits like sugar. I tend to drink one soda a day and partake in a few sugary delights as well. This has to stop. I am really impressed with the guy over at bikerumor.com and his no added sugar experiment for one month (looking forward to reading the results), and would love to try something like that, but I just need to see others do it first so I know what to do. I also have a friend that weighs in every morning and charts his gains and loses, and I feel like that might be a good first start to a drastic nutrition change. So…

DAY1: NO SODA

Breakfast: Russian Caravan tea sweetened with agave nectar. I know I am supposed to eat something, I just don’t have anything!
Lunch: Tuna sandwich with Tomato Basil Soup and green tea.
Dinner/LOST party: White wine (maybe beer) with my wife’s homemade turkey chili

UPDATE:

Since I wont be getting a garmin anytime soon I am going to be using another iphone app. I am going to give RunKeeper a whirl and see if it does the trick. I think that a handle bar mount for the iphone will help too, but i am scared to death of that.

So, today I tried a new route to work to extend my 5 mile ride to a 7 mile ride. I know it doesn’t seem like much but it was fun going a new way and dealing with new drivers.

I planned on doing a training ride tonight after work, but I have feeling that it is not going to happen. This week at work is going to be crazy busy and the same goes with life outside of work. In addition to all that stuff, I feel like I am starting to catch a cold! WHY ME, I have already been sick 2 times in the past 2 months! Hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday I can put some miles in. Stay tuned for more, kid-o’s.

Here is my total for my 300/30 goal (starting 12/31/09):
186.27 of 300 miles (63%)

I couldn’t have asked for better weather, but I did ask for better drivers. I actually had a scare when a dumpster fell off a guys truck and rolled into the road. Luckily for me it rolled into the median and not into the bike lane.

The ride ended up being 33 miles and I did it in 1hr 45mins. I am actually pretty happy with this result, must have been the coffee I had afterwards.
